THE ABRAHAMIC COVENANT

In the book of Genesis after we learn about creation, the fall of mankind, God's grace for Noah, the table of nations in chapter ten, the tower of Babel, and then God's dispersion of mankind throughout the world…

We read of Abram who later becomes Abraham!

Genesis 12:1-3
Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will show thee: 2 And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: 3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.

Notice the Promise is God's! It's unconditional. All Abraham has to do is believe it!

This covenant with Abraham is the first of the theocratic covenants (pertaining to the rule of God). It is unconditional, depending solely upon God who obligates Himself in grace.

Indicated by the unconditional declaration, "I will:" to bring to pass the promised blessings.

The Abrahamic covenant is the basis of all the other theocratic covenants and provides for blessings in three areas:

  1. NATIONAL - "I will cause you to become the father of a great nation"
  2. PERSONAL - "I will bless you and make you famous, and I will make you a blessing to others"
  3. UNIVERSAL -"all the families of the earth will be blessed through you!"

This Covenant Is So Important that all of the rest of the promises of God are tied to it!

All that God has done throughout history, that which He is doing in our generation, and most importantly, what He is about to do so that we can all finally move onto Heaven is wrapped up in this Covenant!

It is the one purpose of God for the human race into which all of God's programs and works fit into!

The personal aspects of the Abrahamic Covenant are fourfold:

  1. To be the father of a great nation.
  2. To receive personal Blessing.
  3. To receive personal honor and reputation.
  4. To be the source of blessings to others.

The universal aspects of the Covenant are threefold:

  1. Blessings for those people and nations that bless Abraham and the nation that comes from him.
  2. Cursings upon those people and nations that curse Abraham and Israel.
  3. Blessings upon all the families of the earth through the Messiah, who, according to the flesh is Abrahams son and provides salvation for the entire world.

God is not done with the nation of Israel! He is still working today!
